FAIR USE

Anyone can use the data for academic, personal, or non-profit uses. This includes using a distribution to display the data on the web or through programs installed on end-user computers, as well as the use of the data through web services.

If a software vendor wishes to distribute this data in a piece of software or software package for which the end user has to pay, said software vendor must contact the project director or the sponsoring organizations for licensing details.

Exception: Funds received through web advertisement are not a violation of fair use. For example, if a website uses the data and receives funds from advertisements displayed on the website, said website is not required to render funds to the sponsoring organizations.

Exception: No one may publish in print format the data collected without express permission from the project director or sponsoring organizations. Note that this exception exists only for not allowing persons to profit from the project by simply re-packaging the data. Quoting and referencing the data in academic publications is encouraged as we want this to be a resource for the community. If there is a question regarding use in this regard, please contact the project director or the sponsoring organizations.

All who use the data are required to specify that the data comes from this project. No one may use the data and either claim or imply that they are the owner of it. The display must be easily available for the end user. If there is a question regarding specifying such, please contact the project director or the sponsoring organizations.
